[Ti] Backing up using rsync in Tiger.

Given the very few options that actually backup spotlight metadata  
ie.extended attributes in Tiger I'm trying to use rsync for backups.

rsync frequently bus errors

Broken pipe (32)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at / 
SourceCache/rsync/rsync-20/rsync/io.c(909)

Does anybody know what is wrong with rsync in Tiger?

It simply not a reliable means of backup.
