Interesting that you should bring this up. I have a firewire drive for backups and I wanted to get one for my father. USB2 drives were cheaper so I ordered him one of those. I just replaced the 4500rpm 80Gb disk in my (NOV-03) 15" Al-Powerbook with a Seagate Momentum 100 Gb running at 7200 rpm, and I can really see the difference in performance; for example, in reduced startup time. Virtual PC is also faster. Classic startup is faster. I really needed the additional storage, as I am doing more stuff with video, but the speed advantage of the 7200 rpm disk is great. About six months ago I replaced the original 40 gb drive 2400 rpm with a 60 gb 7200 drive. I opted for the 7200 speed expecting snappier performance. It may have provided faster performance [presumably it is] altho I have now forgotten the earlier performance speed. how quickly one becomes used to these things. But a significant downside is that the drive runs hotter and the fans activate much more frequently than with the 4200. On your other topic, I believe that Leopard will work on my machine altho whether I install it is still unknown. I expect that Leopard may not run with its full potential but I am only a home hobby user so all the advanced features are of little interest to me [at the present state of publicly announced features]. John - I have often used an LCD projector (is that equivalent to your second monitor?) and I think that you can just do "detect displays" (I have Displays in my main menu, so it is easy) to get the laptop to recognise the right display. Carlos - buenos dias! These are probably good things to have tried. I have no solution for specific problem, but in your case, I would also run Applejack. I do this as matter of routine, if something strange is happening to my Mac..... Install applejack (if for some reason you do not have it installed already), after downloading from http://tc.versiontracker.com/product/redir/lid/917265/ AppleJack-1.4.3.dmg Restart in single user mode (Apple-s) and then type: applejack AUTO restart This will do a deep cleanse of your Macbook. These popups are always in the foreground so interfere with whatever you are doing, and of course in P2P, the number of connections required may be very large, so it is more than annoying. The issue I have is that I cannot find any file (using Spotlight or EasyFind), even looking inside packages, with this name, amongst the million+ files on my disk ! These .jar files are just .zip files with a different extension and you should be able to open them with any unzip program you might have. Within the archive you then look for the file /java/com/acquisitionx/AqMain.class. This is a compiled java program. It is common knowledge that Apple has owned the iphone.org domain, but CISCO has had the iPhone trademark for over 10 years now. They decided to partner with linksys to produce the new phone. It has been media sources that referred to the "upcoming apple phone device" as the iPhone, not apple. It will have another, probably better name. The "I" stuff is really getting a bit stale anyway. Apple did file for iPhone t-marks in other countries though. But it has been generally known inside certain circles that the iPhone moniker would/will not be used for apple's new phone device. cheers From kshook at cae.wisc.edu Wed Dec 20 10:54:27 2006 From: kshook at cae.wisc.edu (Kynan Shook) Date: Wed Dec 20 10:54:41 2006 Subject: [Ti] OT: Little Snitch and P2P In-Reply-To: <20061219095412.264DA61D9A6@listserver.themacintoshguy.com> References: <20061219095412.264DA61D9A6@listserver.themacintoshguy.com> Message-ID: <8F7B73AA-7995-4974-A1D9-F9A6CCEDD19D@cae.wisc.edu> That's probably just the domain that the application specifies for itself - applications generally have something that's the reverse of Internet DNS - like com.apple.Finder - to identify themselves uniquely. Unless you can get a good price for it and could use the cash, you might want to consider keeping it as a backup spare.
