If not why not? Nope, completely different chassis, bits won't line up right, too many internal differences. You _could_ swap your complete display onto a later chassis if you happened on a complete lower section, but that's about the only way to re-utilize what you've already got. Message-ID: Is it worth waiting until October, when Leopard is released, to buy a new Powerbook Pro? If I buy a top end Powerbook (2.4ghz) now, then add Leopard when it is released will I regret it? Or will it be a wash with the cost of Leopard simply added to the price of the Powerbook bought in October? David L. David - how long is a piece of string ? There is unfortunately no definitive answer to this kind of question. My view is that unless you really need to upgrade now, it will always be better to wait until the next release. Then get the largest RAM and biggest / fastest disk. I have an Al-book, ordered the day they were announced, with extra RAM, faster disk, and after almost 4 years, it is still going well. I have had to add a larger disk (7200 rpm 100Gb Seagate). The screen was replaced by Apple because of the white spot problem. I expect that early next year, I will replace it with the latest Powerbook Pro. I will move to Leopard as soon as it it available. How can anyone know if you will regret it or not? There will probably be a period where if you buy a new powerbook within x months of leopard coming out it will be a free or minimal upgrade.. but not sure how long x is. Depends also how badly you need a new powerbook right now? Excuse me for repeating myself. I will give my stock answer to this sort of question: If you can afford to wait, wait. If the inconvenience of not having a Powerbook now is far bigger than the price of a Leopard license on release, then buy today. :) Tarik From jwegriffin at mac.com Mon Aug 6 13:33:06 2007 From: jwegriffin at mac.com (John Griffin) Date: Mon Aug 6 13:33:09 2007 Subject: [Ti] Wait on new Powerbook Pro? If they do this, it would probably behove them to also include all Macs sold after tomorrow on the deal. In the past it has only been over the 30 or 14 days before an OS launch that you've had a free upgrade - I'm sure someone will know the form on this one. -- Best wishes Malcolm Cornelius - The Powerbook Fanatic http://www.pbfanatic.co.uk From boaz at ra-studio.com Tue Aug 7 18:55:21 2007 From: boaz at ra-studio.com (boaz hagay) Date: Tue Aug 7 18:55:41 2007 Subject: [Ti] Hello G4 12 inch fans Message-ID: I love this machine , But the fans .... Set Energy Saver to "better energy saving" (which reduces cpu clock speed) 3. quit applications that you are not using / minimize the number open / check that none are using too much cpu power (Word has been guilty a number of times, in my experience) 4. improve air flow to the Powerbook by raising the back edge 1 to 2 cm off the desk top (preferably with something metal to conduct some heat away) More sophisticated ways exist of reducing Powerbook temperature through forced air / fan cooling, but that is $. See if any of the above help, and report back. regards, Trevor From tfulton at olp.net Tue Aug 7 23:43:55 2007 From: tfulton at olp.net (Thomas Fulton) Date: Tue Aug 7 23:44:09 2007 Subject: [Ti] Hello G4 12 inch fans In-Reply-To: References: Message-ID: <560d607067777eceaa8b54dbed7a9eba@olp.net> Elevate the machine to allow air to circulate past the hottest surface areas. Targus makes a plastic mini desk that allows for this. An thin aluminum plate under the machine would also assist in increasing heat transfer away from the machine.
