[X-Apps] TextEdit won't launch

hi Tom,
You may have missed this in my original email, but I already removed the
TextEdit.plist, and it didn't help. Actually, I went back in there after
your email and thought I'd give it a second try, but there is no plist
in preferences, because I can't launch TextEdit, so it can't create a
new one! (I saved the old one just in case). What happens when I double
click TextEdit is that the icon swings into view in the dock for a
second and then shrinks down and disappears. I just put the old plist
back in and it's no go. I even tried to open it again from the terminal
window, and the same behavior happens. The only way I can open .txt docs
in OSX is to open them from WITHIN MS Word X.
FINAL NOTE: I did open Simple Text in Classic Mode (from system 9.xxx
apps) and now .txt items will open on click, but I really want TextEdit
to work - I've gone to a lot of trouble (upgrading all my apps) not to
have to use Classic, and I'd like to keep it that way. Anyone know if
there's a way to reinstall it from the system disks without reinstalling
system??
