Check your Universal Access Preference Pane.

In the Mouse tab, click the 'Off' radio button for Mouse keys. That 
will give you back your number pad.

In the Keyboard tab, click the 'Off' radio button for Slow keys and 
uncheck the 'Use Click Key Sounds' check box.

That should do it.
