VCD Differences

Using MMT-EZ as a VCD encoder, it lists a bunch of different options: 
VCD, XVCD, SVCD, XSVCD, and DVD. Well, I know VCD & DVD, but what are 
the rest, and which will work in most home DVD players? I know there's 
some differences between DVD players, but I'm talking ones that can 
handle VCDs.
