I don't know how a key logger or spyware works but I assume they  
would have to be hidden as a trojan within some innocent program in  
order to get you to install them. You might want to look at Little  
Snitch which is a reverse firewall. It will let you know when any  
program tries to send information via the net. And Checkmate  
generates checksums for various key programs to compare to and make  
certain they don't get altered. hth
