[X Newbies] downloading and playing sounds

I selected the AIFF encoder.  But when I click File->Import, and then 
choose the directory which has the .wav files, they
are all grayed out.  I also tried dragging one of the .wav files into 
the iTunes executable icon like you suggested
below.  The sound snippet ended up in the iTunes library, and I could 
play it, but I couldn't figure out how to change it
into a .aiff file.

I finally figured out how to option-> left click the .wav files when in 
Explorer so that they will download properly like
Steve Rogers suggested.  He said I could use Quicktime pro to do the 
conversion.  When I double click on the .wav
files, it brings up a little Quicktime box with controls on it so that 
I can play the .wav file.  But I can't find which QT
feature to use to convert from .wav to .aiff.
