Network / Internet problems

Running Jaguar on 500mz beige G-3. DSL connection with Verizon through a DSL
modem via a router.

Problem: I can't seem to connect to the internet or local networked Macs
either.
The TCP/IP settings seem to be exactly the same as when I run the same Mac
in old OS9.  No problems in OS 9 at all.
The IP address is being assigned automatically through the DSL router, so at
least that much appears to be working in OSX.

Any suggestions on what the issue could be?
