I was just at one of the Apple stores and I was told the easiest way to transfer files is through firewire. Start your eMac and then the iMac holding down the T key on the iMac and its hard drive will appear on the eMac as a firewire drive. It works for transfering files, although I don't know about passwords and such. Let me know how it goes.
