password protection, and VPN

hello everyone,

two topics:

i). short of logging out, am i correct in thinking that my only option 
in jaguar for protecting data on my pismo (OS X.2.3) is to use the 
screen saver (of course set over a hot-key or -corner, and to come on 
automatically before sleeping). my point is, where is the option to 
have to enter a password when waking from sleep (e.g. in case sleep 
comes before the screen saver)?!?

ii). are there any recommended solutions for using VPN through ipsec in 
jaguar?
