You can put them in the ~/Library/Fonts folder but not in the
~/System/Library folder. Fonts in the ~/Library/Fonts folder are available
to all users. 
You can also put them in ~/Users/yourfolder/Library/Fonts, but those fonts
won't be available to other accounts on your machine.
