Switching to Mail finally

Well, it looks like I'll finally be switching from Netscape Communicator
to Apple's Mail program.

Couple of questions though:

I seem to remember hearing that Mail has difficulty handling large
folders of email. Is this in terms of the number of messages, or the
folders size? My biggest folder is about 3500 messages/70 megabytes.

Is is possible to pickup email from different email accounts (from the
same ISP) without quitting and restarting Mail for each one? I have to
do this with Netscape Communicator.
