Not quite so. Actually, in Finder, command-up arrow takes you one step 
higher in the directory (folder) hierarchy. It's a shortcut that's been 
with the Mac OS Finder since the dawn of time (at the very least since 
System 6.0.7 -- if any of you young things can remember that far back). 
In OS X, if no other Finder windows are active, it takes you to your 
home directory, but that is only apparently paradoxical: in X, the (or 
better, your) desktop is actually inside your home directory.
