[X Newbies] Alternatives to Word/MS Office

I've been using OpenOffice for nearly a year now and have found no MS 
Word documents from my office or from my wife's that it could not open. 
Some of these have been templates. I cannot vouch for everything on 
your list because I am not a power word processor.
