350 Mhz, slot loading iMac, OS 9.2.2, attempted to install 10.2 without updating firmware. When rebooted only a blank, gray screen. Tried booting from CD and external hard drive --same result. FIXES 1. Removed hard drive and reformated to 9.2 using external case. Also put firmware update on drive --reinstalled drive. 2. Zap the PRAM. Reboot your computer while holding down the command-option-p-r keys simultaneously. Don't let up until you have heard the startup chime three or four times. Got flashing question mark. Was able to boot from CD, but no hard drive icon on destop. 3. Reset Open Firmware. Reboot your computer while holding down the command-option-o-f keys simultaneously. At the prompt, type reset-nvram and hit the Return key, then type reset-all and hit the Return key again. Your computer will reboot. Hard drive Icon showed up. Changed startup disk to hard drive. Rebooted and ran firmware update. Rebooted while holding programers button. Everything is working! Mike Gantz mgantz at ctcweb.net
