I recommend against Symantec products and rail particularly against 
ever *installing* any product from Symantec onto an OS X machine. 
It's a cure in search of a disease (and the purported cure is more 
often detrimental to the patient than most of the rare incidences of 
the disease). If you do insist on using a utility from Symantec, run 
it from the CD.

A good backup regimen, knowledge of the Safe Boot procedure, and use 
of DiskWarrior & Disk Utility constitutes most of the utility that OS 
X needs. More exotic procedures usually take longer than a 
re-initialise & restore cycle anyway.
