You reported a "lock" icon. If you meant a small lock superposed on the lower left corner of the file's icon, that's how Finder displays a locked file. Setting the lock in Finder is the same thing as setting the user immutable flag. Had this file been locked, ls would have listed it as -rw-r--r-- 1 morland staff uchg 64591415 17 Dec 2003 /Volumes/ [...] AFAICT, you should be able to open, modify, and save this file as you please (assuming there's enough space on the drive). If, nevertheless, this file appears to you locked, I can think of the following options: (1) You don't see the lock in Finder, but in some other application. Perhaps one of the Photoshop locks? (2) You do see the lock in Finder, and you can't save changes, although ls reports the file isn't locked. In this case, (a) you may be using an older version of Photoshop, which has problems with the pathname; (b) the file may be locked by VersionCue or some other project management tool; (c) you may be using a third-party encryption or anti-virus utility; (d) the disk directory may be damaged. You should verify Macintosh HD 2 with Disk Utility immediately. If no errors are reported, check the other options, unless someone else comes up with a better suggestion. <0x0192>
