I hope the OP will find a simple solution. I started with ffmpegX after a week or so of research, thinking I would rather take the time to learn a robust app and continue to use it, than to start with something that didn't really "float my boat" and have to change to something else and learn it. I have since learned how to split, join, adjust brightness, preview, and troubleshoot problems. It's no big deal...just like it says on the main window of ffmpegX...1. Drop file, 2. Select a target format, 3. Encode. Before I switched, I remember how intimidated I was when I saw "Nero Burning ROM", with all it's bells and whistles. I gritted my teeth, did my homework, and learned it. It became my app of choice before long. :-)
