[X-Newbies] Erase contents of hard disc

I think I shall just give a thank you to everybody and restart my life (rather than the Mac)!  I can't even use the Install Disc now - there is just a jumble of words/instructions/languages on the screen - and nothing does anything.

Me and technology, eh?
