What's the best way to clone an OS X 10.1.4 server?

A lab here has an OS X 10.1.4 server and wants to upgrade it to 10.2.4.

I do NOT want to do this the first time "live". I want to clone the drive to
another, blank drive I have, then upgrade the functional duplicate.

What's the best way to make a fully functional duplicate? Will the older
10.1 compatible version of Carbon Copy cloner work? Or should I use
something else? I have Retrospect, but that would only work if I had a "bare
bones" OS X 10.1.4 Server install on the destination drive already. And I
don't have the install CDs so that's not an option.

Any recommedations would be appreciated.
