Define "turn off internet access". Did you turn off the network interface at the computer or just unplug the network connection? In my mind, "turn off network" and "get mail" are mutually exclusive. All SMTP mail access requires an IP connection. Disable the IP connection and you can never get mail from anywhere. You could set up some address specific firewall rules. See man ipfw. But trying to allow all local traffic (including SMTP, DHCP, Bonjour, printing, etc.) while blocking IP traffic from the Internet as a whole is a non-trivial task. -- James Bucanek From kansast at mac.com Wed Oct 26 18:48:45 2005 From: kansast at mac.com (Kansas Territory) Date: Wed Oct 26 18:48:49 2005 Subject: [X-Servers] osx server and high capacity mail servers Message-ID: <35493345-806A-4DFD-A528-A8ED63A43105@mac.com> my old company had a linux mail server farm providing email to 10,000 user accounts. Even though Xserve comes with Postfix, we would recommend considering our Post.Office mail server and list server. Post.Office is being used world-wide on many different platforms by large ISPs with 10 of thousands of mailboxes. The set up and administration is all via a browser-based GUI. And individuals can use that same web GUI to administer their own mail accounts (set up vacation messages, change passwords, add forwarding, etc.). Post.Office supports virus scanning (with ClamAV) and SPAM filtering (both with built-in filters and with SpamAssassin) and runs very well on Xserves. http://www.tenon.com/products/post_office. -Anita > >kansast > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >_______________________________________________ >X-Servers mailing list >X-Servers@listserver.themacintoshguy.com >http://listserver.themacintoshguy.com/mailman/listinfo/x-servers > >Listmom is trying to clean out his closets!
