Deleting directories from another server

I am logged on to an Irix server (running KShare) via appletalk as 
User1. Certain directories refuse to be deleted because of unknown 
error -50.

If I SSH into the server as the same user, I can delete (rm -fr) the 
directory with no problem.

If I am in a local Terminal window and cd to the same directory via 
/Volumes/... and try to rm -fr, I get
rm: directoryname/: Invalid argument

As of now I must always SSH in to the other server to delete these 
directories and files.

I'd like my regular Mac operators to be able to do so via the Finder.

Any suggestions?
