No, indeed.

It occurred to me after posting that AppleScript's role is to handle UI 
events from outside of applications themselves. I don't see that 
there's anything else which will do this. But that doesn't make me like 
or understand Applescript. I should really learn it - this thread has 
illustrated how potent AppleScript is - but I have other things to do 
right now.
