[X-Unix] CLI mail sending on 10.3.9

Can anyone point me toward the trick for sending mail from the command
line on my PowerBook (10.3.9) through our campus mail server?
   On my Suns I edit the /etc/hosts file to have a line indicating the
IP address of our Exchange that I also name as "mailhost" -- and then
any script can pipe its output to `mailx` which will have sendmail give
the outgoing nessage to the mail server.
   Is this what Postfix Enabler does? If not, how else can I do this?
