[X4U] slow starup

A friend who I can only advise by phone or email finds her computer 
takes ages to startup. I know, I know.....but in her case it can be up 
to 20 minutes. However if the computer is switched off for half an hour 
or so then it start up in a much reasonable time. This makes me think 
that this is more likely to be a hardware problem, possibly with the 
monitor. Any hints would be welcome.
