[X4U] CDROM not recognized?

This is EXACTLY the problem I'm having.  The CD drive worked fine 
during an OS9 installation and an OSX 10.3 install.  It only quit 
recognizing CD's after this update.  I tried all the NVRAM, PRAM, etc. 
resets, deleted the 2 extension.kext files and every other suggestion 
here and nothing has worked.  The file is in the extensions directly 
and permissions look OK.

I don't guess there is anyway to un-install a software update?  Or if I 
blow it all away, only update to x.3.6 via software update?  I really 
have to have this thing ready for her tonight.
