You can use generic hardware for base stations, but the Airport and 
Airport Express slots have a custom pinout and will only accept the 
appropriate card - you can't use generic PCMCIA cards, even though they 
look like they would fit in the slot.

Note also that Airport slots will not accept Airport Express cards, and 
Airport Express slots will not accept Airport cards.
