I can, on my 17² PowerBook with OS X 10.4.2 on it. However, docs must be to
the right of the little ³divider² line in the Dock, along with folders, etc.
Only applications go on the left side of the little divider line thingy.

OS X 10.3.9 on my dual G5 behaves the same way.
