I also suggest his build of PHP:

    http://www.entropy.ch/software/macosx/php/

It has a lot of extra stuff compiled in.  One caveat is if you run PHP from
the command line you will want to make sure his versions (in
/usr/local/php/bin) appear in your PATH before Apple's (/usr/bin).
