had one of those APCs once ... and I keep meaning to get another one.

anywho, here's a few things to try:

  * does the APC's circuit breaker need to be reset?

  * is the APC's battery still good? (perhaps the circ. brkr. has
been tripped and you're trying to boot off of an uncharged/
undercharged and perhaps old battery.)

  * try plugging the iMac directly into the wall socket as a test.
(this may help to narrow down if the APC is the problem.)

  * is there a PMU (power management unit) button on the iMac? (like
one on powerbooks) if so, try holding that pressed in for 5-10, and
then try to boot up. i'd do this plugged directly into the wall
socket to avoid any APC problems until the iMac is back to normal.
