[X4U] DVDs on legacy PowerBooks?

PowerBook G3 (Firewire) 500Mhz definitely plays DVD's and runs Panther very well.

But the Pismos still seem pretty expensive at eBay ($400-$500). You can get a faster iBook for about the same price (although the screen is smaller too...)
