OK,

Yes, importing MPEG movies into iMovie will strip the audio. Forget 
that method.

Did you try MPEG StreamClip?

ffmpeg may be able to do it for you also.

Also, if you search macupdate or versiontracker for VOB and DV, you may 
find something else that will work for you.
