I didn't mean to seem pedantic or gruff. I found your comparison 
interesting too, and I have always enjoyed this kind of discussion. And 
I like a friendly debate.

Machine speed versus application performance is, for me, fascinating. 
As revDave posted later, a small change in the scope of a variable had 
a huge influence on the timing results. That's interesting.
