[X4U] stupid n00b question

No such thing as a stupid question... only potentially stupid
answers. Here's my shot at avoiding stupidity:

As I understand it, most of what an application needs is within the
application bundle itself - so moving them around should pose no
problem. I have applications in a variety of places, including sub-
folders within the Applications folder, some within my Home folder,
others on another partition altogether. The only problem I'm aware of
is when you go to update an application - the updater may not know
what to do if it can't find the original where it expects it. Some
updaters will allow you to tell it where the app is, others will just
not work until you put the app back where it wants it to be.
