It looks like all iSync is for now is phones. .Mac syncing is done by the system (configured in the .Mac preference pane) iPod syncing is done with iTunes. Like it or not, that is the path they have chosen. I'm not sure I'd call it a "joke", I actually find it more convenient as my iPod sync's with iTunes every time I plug it in without having to also run iSync.
