It sounds like your monitor's convergence sttings are hosed.  Hook your 
monitor up to a different signal source and see if it still has these 
artifacts.  If it soes get online to see if Sony has provided a simple 
way for the end-user to make this adjustment.  My NEC Multisync has an 
option in the OSD for making minor adjustments to the convergence.  Your 
Sony model may have a similiar feature.

I hope it's that simple - although if you have the $$ this could be a 
good excuse to get an LCD display.
