On your system, you could check for and turn off unused directory access services/protocols in /Applications/Utilities/Directory Access.app. No sense having your computer looking for an LDAP server if you don't have an LDAP server, etc. You could also check for and turn off unused network ports in System Preferences > Network > Network Port Configuration. I'd also drag your network ports into the order in which you want them to be checked. Again, if you're never going to use your Firewire or modem for network access, turn them off and drag them to the bottom of the list. This way the ports you do use will be checked for network connectivity first and you don't have to wait through the timeouts on the other ports. Hopefully one of these suggestions will help. -- gretchen
