I am a believer in 24/7 computing so that OS X can run its cron jobs at 3
a.m. (or whenever it is that . On my computers (the G4 and external Maxtors
in my earlier post), the hard drives do not sleep at all (SETI, protein
folding, etc.), so I expect my MTBF to arrive "sooner" than most folks. The
iMac I referred to is allowed to sleep, she's a light user that checks her
email once a day or so. The Toshiba was a laptop, and it was fully turned
off for hubby to take it to campus every day.
