DVD burners are cheap, in the range of $40-100 for internals. Blu-ray  
and HD-DVD are going to be much more than that when they come out.  
Buy the DVD burner now and replace it with something new when you  
have a compelling reason to do so.

Dual layer burning is a pretty common ffeature these days, but the  
media remains prohibitively expensive for most of us. The least  
expensive I could find in a quick web search was $3.00 per disc.
