[X4U] Changing the Default Application

How do I change the default application for a document file?  I have an 
Excel spreadsheet that opens in Word when I double click it.  When I 
right-click the file's icon (which is generic) and select "Open with . 
. .",  MS Word is shown as the default app.  I've tried opening the 
file within Excel (which works okay) then doing a "Save As", but that 
doesn't help.
