[X4U] Photoshop (CS2) glitch

Previously I have always been able to print a 'selected' part of a  
picture but today whatever I try the 'print selected area' in the  
'print with preview' dialogue window remains stubbornly gray. Is this  
some cunning infection by Epson, Canon et al to stop me economising  
on in when printing test strips????

Or is is just me in which case can some one put me right.
