   Has anyone actually USED Migration Assistant? How well does it work?

Yes, several times.  Works fantastically well.

   Is there any info that you all, as Gurus and Geeks, would cover to a  
   group of potential Intel Mac buyers on the upgrade process?

It doesn't do system things (like installing X11, Classic, and similar
things).  It also doesn't warn you.  (It took be a long time to figure
out why my X11 stuff didn't work once.)
