I'm not sure why they are so expensive.  I note that all of the SATA to 
FireWire cases available are multi-interface cases, which logically 
increases the price of the case to some extent.  But I wouldn't expect 
them to be as expensive as they are.

If I come across an inexpensive SATA to FW case, I'll be sure to pass it 
along.
