I use an application called "PopChar X," by Ergonis Software.
Well worth the price.
A tiny icon sits in your menu bar, and when clicked on, a window appears 
which shows all the available characters in the font you've chosen for 
your mail or newsgroup.

Among those are the characters you mention.
