I had the same sort of problems getting an initial backup completed until I deselected the automatic logoff option in System Preferences\Security and restarted TM by deselecting and reselecting the backup drive. Once it was finished doing the initial backup, I restored the original settings and TM seems to be working as advertised. Ken Hagen
