OK, found it.... I had converted all of my cells to Text cells. While they was little info in all cells all was fine. Until one or two cells became much larger the issue showed up. If I convert a problem cell from a Text cell to a Generic cell, the hashes disappear. Change it back to a Text cell and the hashes re- appear. Rather strange but an easy fix!
