No, the iBook transitioned from G3 to G4 around the 900mhz mark.

It's too early to say that. For me the upgrade from 10.2 to 10.3 was  
killer (good), and I read around that time many others' thoughts that  
OS X was improving steadily since 10.1 and each release was getting  
faster on older hardware. 10.4 basically added Spotlight and Widgets  
(is Automator worth mentioning?) and I'm not convinced of any benefit  
to be seen running it on older hardware. My expectations of 10.5 are  
iCal client-server and that it should improve Spotlight's usability -  
I think you have to decide for yourself what benefit you'll get out  
of any o/s you might choose to install (or at least tell us what's  
important to you).
