[X4U] Inexpensive Mac compatible handheld digital audio recorder?

It would, if the people asking had a iPod. :^)

Some more details seem to indicate that this is only for Board 
Meetings, and I'm recommending using a laptop.  Now to figure out 
about a microphone from the looks of things.  It would need to hook 
up to a late 2006 17" MacBook Pro, preferably without needing to use 
my Presonus Firebox (though I could bring it since I need to attend 
the meetings).

Any recommendations on a suitable USB Microphone that would work for 
roughly a living room or a bit larger size space?
