Ed, when you click on your desktop, best to do this with all folders/apps closed, you'll be in the Finder. Then in the main toolbar, next to the Apple logo you'll see: Finder File Edit View Go Window Help ........click on File and a drop down menu appears. Select: New Finder Window from that menu. Then select View from the main toolbar, at the bottom of that drop down you'll see: Show view options (you can also get this menu by clicking on the button with the gear icon) If you want all your windows to have the same view be sure to select: All Windows. I just logged in to my G4 running 10.4.11 to verify these steps. --- On Tue, 4/7/09, Ed Gould <edgould1948 at comcast.net> wrote: > From: Ed Gould <edgould1948 at comcast.net> > Subject: Re: [X4U] Finder default view-Was "Is there a....." > To: jdljm at yahoo.com, "A place to discuss Mac OS X for the casual user." <x4u at listserver.themacintoshguy.com> > Date: Tuesday, April 7, 2009, 1:15 PM > John: > > Thanks, but I cannot get step 1, I cannot see: while in > Finder select from the File drop down > > There is no finder select. > I am at 10.4.11 is that the issue? > > Ed > > On Apr 7, 2009, at 6:54 AM, John Drake wrote: > > > > > I'm having a similar problem in that the main > finder view always defaults to Icon view, but when I select > a folder it comes up in Column view which is the default > setting I've chosen.
